Nextel i95cl Housing Installation Instructions
Let me give you the most important piece of advice. – TAKE YOUR TIME!!!!!
- You need to remove the entire flip from the bottom
part of the phone. While the phone is flipped open you need to insert a
large flat head screwdriver in the right hinge of the flip. Twist it until
the flip mechanism pops up. Gently remove the flip from the phone. It is
EXTREMELY important that you gently unhook the wire harness that is
connected to the main part of the phone.
- I recommend taking apart the bottom part of the
phone first. Remove the battery cover and the battery. There are 4 screws
that have to be removed. 2 under the Nextel Sticker, 1 in plain view and the
other behind the antenna. Remove the antenna and the silver housing
separately. All you need to do is rock the silver antenna housing back and
forth and it will come out. Once the phone splits in two, you will need to
remove the 2nd wire harness, which connects the two pieces.
- You will need to need to remove the main board of
the phone and set it aside.
- Remove the microphone at the bottom of the phone.
You will also have to pry the little board off the phone with a small
screwdriver. There is a little
piece of plastic that locks it into place. Make sure not to break the wires
that connect it to the speaker.
- You need to wedge a flat head screwdriver between
the speaker and the phone. It is attached by glue. You can heat the piece up
with a hair dryer or portable heater, which will make it a little easier.
This will take a little force.
- On the top portion of the phone, you will need to
remove the earpiece jack. Simply pull the full assembly out by the bottom.
It should come right out. The earpiece jack is attached to a little board on
the top left of the phone. I recommend taking a small flat head screwdriver
and prying it out gently.
- Finally you will remove the metal strip on your
phone, which has your serial number on it. Just put your thumb behind it and
push.
- The Flip (harder part)
- You need to heat the flip up with a hair dryer or
portable heater. The blue shinny piece is held on by glue. After about a
minute or so, you should be able to insert a flat head screwdriver in the
opposite side of the flip and push the blue piece up a little bit. This will
take some force. Once the blue piece is lifted a little bit up, try to hold
the piece up with your nail or another flat head screwdriver. You will need
to insert a small flathead underneath the blue piece and move it around
gently to undo the glue. Make sure you are not jamming it into the Caller ID
Screen. Go around it. The piece will pop off with a good push.
- Unscrew the 4 smaller screws that hold the flip
together.
- Remove the piece that surrounds the screen. It
should just fall out or you can pry it out real gently. Go from the bottom
where the flip joints are.
- Disconnect the wire harness gently!
- The rest of the steps require patients, so take
your time and be gently. The Caller ID display and the wiring harness are
about $80 (wholesale)
- You need to remove the metal piece that holds the
flip in place. Once you remove that, you can remove the middle piece which
also holds the flip in place. You can remove this by simply pulling it
toward the Caller ID Screen.
- On the opposite side of the flip hinge, you will
see another hinge. This has a screwdriver slot that is facing out. (Phillips
or Flat head)
- You need to turn the hinge and unwind the wire
harness from the hinge. BE GENTLE!!!
- The piece will be able to be removed after you
remove it from the wire harness.
- Make sure to keep track of all the loose parts.
- Tougher part!
- You need to remove the plastic holder that holds
the Caller ID screen in place. I recommend heating up the flip to loosen the
glue. Simply go around the edge and GENTLY pry off the plastic piece. On the
main wire hardness, you will see a speaker. Remove it and set aside. Below
the speaker is the top of the wire harness. You are going to need to push
that off the phone. I take the same size torch wrench that fits the smaller
screws. I push up from the opposite side of the phone and angling in toward
the speaker. Do one side and then the other. After that piece is removed,
you will need to remove the Caller ID screen. I recommend heating it up
again. Gently take a flat head screwdriver and go around the edge of the
display and prying up. You will pretty much need to pull it out of the
phone. It the display is bent, it will make a black imprint on your display.
It looks like it is cracked, but it isn’t. The liquid crystal is just
forming to the bend. It will go away after a few minutes.
After everything is taken
apart, you pretty much need to do the opposite. You must have patience doing
this operation. It took me 1:30hrs the 1st time and it still takes me
about 45 minutes to change a case.
